About OneStory

The Bible invites us into a story.

It’s the story of how God created a garden of a home on earth out of a dark, watery chaos.

It’s the story of how He created humanity to image His character and ways and invited us to live in His direct presence.

And it’s the story of how God invited humanity to partner with Him in expanding His garden kingdom until the entirety of earth pulsates with life in His presence. Life without end.

God’s invitation is so persistent that when humanity thwarts the story, He invites us back into it over and over again. All of the stories of the Bible keep pointing to this one story.

The Story Cycle

Being called out of chaos and passing through water to live in a garden for the purpose of blessing the entire earth with God’s rule…

This is Noah’s story. This is Moses’s story. This is all of Israel’s story.

But rejecting God’s ways, losing the garden, and returning to relative chaos…

This is also their story. It’s ours, too. And the Bible brings all of our stories together to point us to Jesus.

Jesus is God-With-Us, the one who is bringing the story to its intended completion. In, by, and through Jesus, God invites us into a covenant partnership in which He renews us to image His character and ways. Through the power of His Spirit, we get to cultivate the renewal of creation. Eventually, Jesus will return and the entirety of earth will pulsate with resurrected, Spirit-filled life in God’s presence.

Our Purpose

OneStory is an educational collaborative that develops resources to help families explore the Bible and practice the way of Jesus.

Our resources invite generations to connect with Jesus and one another while discovering how Jesus understood and lived into this story. They also train imaginations to recognize the unique ways He is inviting us to live into His story, individually, as families, and as communities of Christians.

Our Mission

Stories have the power to unite people. So does purpose. Our prayer is that as His followers learn to live into Jesus’ story, we would also find increased unity as we partner with Him and one another towards His purpose of bringing the Bible’s story to completion.

OneStory approaches the Bible through the paradigms identified by BibleProject:

The Bible Is Human and Divine Literature…
A collaboration between God and human writers.
The Bible Is Unified Literature…
With many authors, literary styles, and themes that tell one story about God rescuing humanity so that we can be his partners in ruling the world.
The Bible Is Messianic Literature…
Telling a story that reaches its climax in Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection and the gift of the Spirit.
The Bible Is Communal Literature…
Designed to be read and studied within a community that is learning to live by its story.
The Bible Is Ancient Literature..
Written in another time and culture with different assumptions and approaches to life (and writing!) than our own.
The Bible Is Meditation Literature…
Artistically designed to interpret itself through a lifetime of rereading and reflection.
The Bible Is Wisdom Literature…
Revealing God’s wisdom and inviting us into a journey of character transformation.

The Story Behind OneStory

Curious about the story behind OneStory? Well, that story starts with Mike McDonald, BibleProject’s Chief Strategic Relations Officer. Mike joined us over Zoom so we could come together to share the highlights.
